Fat Burner Pill?
Apidexin is the latest and greatest (?) diet pill on the market that claims to burn fat. I’m not a big fan of people thinking that popping a pill is a good alternative to hard work, diet and exercise. However, … Continue reading
Drink Away Your Appetite
I bet you were hoping I was going to say that beer or wine is the solution. Unfortunately for everyone, they are not. Both are packed with calories that only help you to add on weight! With obesity becoming a … Continue reading

Waist Not, Want Not!
It seems as though our society is currently obsessed with finding the next new quick weight loss diet. The truth is, sadly, that there is no such thing as quick weight loss. Losing weight takes both time and energy. The best way (really the only way) to lose weight is to change your lifestyle. Simply put, you need less food coming into your body and more energy being expended. Eat less, exercise more. It’s hard work but it does work!
It’s astounding to me that there are fast food places everywhere feeding us junk that we just keep shoveling in while complaining about our expanding waist lines and the planet’s dwindling natural resources. If we decreased our portion sizes, both problems would essentially be solved. We wouldn’t have such a strain on the world’s food sources, the landfills would be less full of wasted packaging (over packaging) and everyone would be slimmer, trimmer, healthier and happier!
There would less energy being wasted making all kinds of extra junk food and more energy being burned by people getting outside and exercising. That way we’d have some nice green landscapes to jog past.

Losing Weight Organically
Western culture seems obsessed with consumption. Over consumption represents leading to everything bad such as obesity and pollution, yet we continue. We over indulge in junk foods that are bad for us and then over use prescriptions and medications to help us shed those pounds. Next, we struggle with diet pill side effects which lead us to use even more and more pills.
These sculptures by artist Ron James are called Corporate DNA with the erratic version on the left and the controlled version on the right. They highlight the overuse of prescriptions in modern day society and the need for more natural solutions.
How about organic foods as a weight loss tool? There has been some debate in recent years as to the health benefit of organically grown foods as opposed to traditionally grown foods. However, the hormones, chemicals and pesticides that are used traditionally on fruits and vegetables do build up in the human system. Actually, alot of these dangerous goods are stored in fat cells. This build up of artifical products in the system has been linked to storing even more fat!
Organic products don’t have any of those artifical additives. They are processed more quickly and easily by the human body and this can help to increase metabolism. This increased metabolism leads to extra energy. So you’ll feel more like exercising hopefully! Less fatigue, less sickness, a decrease in fat storage, higher metabolism, more exercise and a better night’s sleep have all been linked to an organic diet. All of that without any empty prescription bottles to use in art projects!
Seriously though, eating organic can really make a difference to the overall health of your body, help to decrease your consumption levels as it takes less food to fill you up, reduce waste and end up with cleaner water on a global scale because of not using pesticides. How can you go wrong??

Kick Start Your Weight Loss in a Natural Way
This picture from Flickr user tacit requiem *tnx for the pro-account auntie Aday is a close-up on some diet pills currently available on the market today. Diet pills are commonly used by people looking to drop pant sizes and imrove their health. However, even the best diet pills available on the market can have a serious detriment on the user’s health while not providing a long lasting effect on one’s waist size.
It sure would be easier to just pop a pill or two to lose weight but unfortunately, it’s just not that easy yet. Most diet pills use stimulants (caffeine) to shed pounds. While it is true that caffeine may stimulate more activity in the short term, it does have some serious side effects. The amount of caffeine in a typical diet pill is equivalent to drinking 2-3 cups of coffee. When this is added to a obese individual’s dietary uptake which may already be quiet heavy in caffeine, some serious health problems may arise such as anxiety, insomnia, elevated heart rate and increased blood pressure. An overweight person’s heart is already working extra so increasing the heart rate and blood pressure are bound to cause even more serious problems such as abnormal heart rhythms, headaches, nausea and muscle tremors.
So, how do you lose weight then?? Well, unfortunately, the old stand-bys of diet and exercise are the “old standbys” for a reason. It’s not easy or fast but it is highly effective, completely natural and will lead to health improving in both the short and long term. Start slowly by decreasing processed foods and adding more natural alternatives. Eat out less. Buy more vegetables. Instead of having potato chips, grab an apple. You’ll be surprised what a few easy changes in diet can do over a month. Add in some exercise slowly. Walk the dog. Take the kids to the park. Actually use the treadmill and exercise bike that are currently collecting dust. Go slow and stay natural and you’ll see a vast improvement in your health, your family’s health, and you’ll need to go and buy yourself a new smaller wardrobe!
Losing Weight and Saving the Planet
With the beginning of a new year brings the beginning of many new resolutions. One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight. Many people start off on the right track but quickly lose momentum as the weeks wear on. By the end of January, many people have completely dropped their lofty goals of losing weight.
There are many eco-friendly ways that can help you to lose weight which in turn, will help you to have less of a negative impact on the world around you. First of all, start of each morning with a healthy breakfast. Try organic oatmeal or granola to help fill you up and keep you full until lunch. Set small weight loss goals and once you’ve met them, add another step. This is the same method that many people use to make their lifestyle greener — each tiny babystep at a time will make the change gradual and less drastic. Remember that these are lifestyle changes not short term fixes.
Stop drinking pop and carbonated beverages. They are full of empty calories and uselessly waste plastic bottles. Instead of pop, drink tap water. Bottled water only adds to the wasted plastic piles and most tap water in the western world is completely safe to drink. If you don’t like the taste, get a filter and use that instead!
Eat smaller portions at meal times and safe the leftovers for the next day. This will reduce calories as well as waste. At the same time, you’ll cut back drastically on your grocery and eating out bills. Try eating vegetarian once a week — it’s better for the planet and your waistline.
Don’t run out and buy a ton of weight loss products that will only end up sitting around your house unused. Many weight loss pills are completely bogus while others are totally unsafe. Ensure that you talk to your doctor or naturoath before taking any pill. As for exercise equipment, research what you’re interested in thoroughly before making a purchase that you may come to regret later. Try buying a second hand treadmill instead of a brand new one. Buying used products is much more sustainable than constantly buying new and can really help to save you a lot of money as well.
Good luck with your weight loss aspirations and remember that it can be very much a two steps forward, one step back routine. The point is that you are making progress towards your ideal weight.
Organic Weight Loss Products
During this global recession, it’s hard to believe that some industries are still booming. The weight loss product industry is one such industry where the money still seems to be coming in. As people have less and less money to spend on healthy food choices, the rates of obesity may go even higher than the astronomical highs that have been seen over the last decade or so. The truth is that people can eat a proper and healthy diet on a budget. It just takes some time and planning. There are many ways to cut back on your food costs that save calories and fat as well. One of the main ways to do this is to eat basic, simple foods instead of pre-packaged, pre-processed foods that are bad for your body and for the environment. The planet is full of unneccessary packaging from over processed products. The processing of foods often adds salt, sugar, fat and calories as well. Try cooking simple meals from scratch. If you can, shop for locally grown organic fruits and vegetables. Cooking from basic ingredients doesn’t take nearly as long as you think that it would, I guarantee it! This is something that I have been trying to do more and more of over the last couple of months.
If you truly do need to buy some weight loss products, try going the organic, holistic route to help you shed those extra pounds. There are many products that contain natural vitamins and minerals that can help you loose weight that will not add extra chemicals to both our bodies and our environment. Eat less, exercise more. These are the best and most efficient ways to loose weight. And both will benefit the environment at the same time. Eatting less will consume less resources and exercise more will encourage more people to spend times outside enjoying nature and learning to treasure it.
